The Alligator Army Weekly Open Thread, Vol. XIV

Would a college player's professional destination ever change your rooting interest?

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

I'm sure there are Florida fans — people who identify as Gators, first and foremost — who were lapsed Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans before last week, when the Bucs nabbed Vernon Hargreaves III with their first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Obviously, we probably all know or know of at least one Tim Tebow fan who became a Denver Broncos fan in the Gators legend's brief time in the Mile High City.

But would you give up an existing allegiance or fanhood to cheer on a Gator swapping orange and blue for new professional duds? And how far down the list would you go from the best players on the team? I could see becoming a Hawks fan after Al Horford was drafted to Atlanta, but did anyone become a Patriots fan after Dominique Easley was picked by them, or a Steelers fan because of Chris Rainey?

I don't really have to worry about this, because I'm a teamless NBA fan who mostly roots for players and people I like, and the Packers (generally; I see you, Lerentee McCray!) seem far more interested in the alumni of basically every other school in the world. I'm not a typical case, though, so I'm curious about your thoughts.

And, as always, the Weekly Open Thread need not stay on topic.

(It's also sorry for being late.)
