Jarrad Davis, Teez Tabor lead Gators on coaches’ preseason All-SEC team

Florida landed eight Gators on the three teams.

Eight Gators, led by first-team selections linebacker Jarrad Davis and cornerback Teez Tabor, made the 2016 Preseason All-SEC Team voted on by the league’s coaches, the SEC announced Thursday

Davis and Tabor were joined by three second-teamers — offensive lineman Martez Ivey, defensive end Bryan Cox, Jr., and punter Johnny Townsend — and three third-teamers: Defensive backs Marcus Maye and Quincy Wilson, and offensive lineman David Sharpe.

As with media voters’ All-SEC teams, announced after SEC Media Days in July, the lack of talented sophomore Antonio Callaway, who led the SEC in yards per catch in 2015, is conspicuous, and the esteem for Cox, Jr. is odd in the context of Caleb Brantley’s existence.

But Wilson is at least on this team — he’s the only new Gator on a squad relative to the media’s eight-man contingent, which included defensive lineman Cece Jefferson — and Davis being a first-teamer makes more sense to me than him being relegated to the second team.
