Shawn Davis has wanted to be a Gator for months — so went the scuttlebutt about the three-star cornerback from Miami’s Southridge High, who had scheduled a commitment for after his team’s Friday night regular season opener.
Then that game got abbreviated by rain. Then Davis was going to announce at noon on Saturday — except he didn’t, and Scout scooped him.
Finally, Davis tweeted out a commitment video — not quite at the production values of Friday Florida commit Fred Hansard’s Bleacher Report-produced reel — and made what was an open secret public knowledge, by committing to the Gators.

Davis might be the first person to wear a Miami shirt while committing to the Gators, but those are Gator blue shorts he’s wearing.
As for what he can do on the field: Davis has a highlight reel that reveals him as a heady player who has a knack for high-pointing the ball, with a particularly impressive deflection coming about 1:30 into this Hudl film.
Davis is the nation’s No. 500 player per the 247Sports Composite, making him a high three-star. He is Florida’s 16th commit for the 2017 class; third defensive back, joining Elijah Blades and Marco Wilson; and second commit from Miami Southridge, joining tight end Kemore Gamble.
Florida’s class now ranks 12th nationally in the 247Composite team rankings, with a per-player average ranking better than Miami, Michigan, and Tennessee — the three teams ranked directly ahead of the Gators.
