Chomping at Bits: Steve Spurrier names his 11 favorite Florida games in The Swamp

Chomping at Bits comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find, and some other stuff. Got a link you think we should check out? Email us at, subject line CAB, or find us on Twitter at@AlligatorArmy or on Facebook at

Steve Spurrier’s 11 favorite games in The Swamp: Florida went 68-5 (AND FIVE) at home during Spurrier’s 12 seasons as coach of the Gators. In the 14 seasons since he left, Florida has only had four seasons in which they went undefeated at home (Spurrier had seven). (Chris Harry, Florida Gators)

Gators will have six scholarship receivers available for opener: Those receivers are Antonio Callaway, Brandon Powell, Dre Massey, Freddie Swain, Ahmad Fulwood, and Joshua Hammond. (Thomas Goldkamp, 247 Sports)

Q&A with Marcus Maye about Florida’s secondary: Maye singled out the LSU and FSU games as the ones that mean the most to him this season. (Zach Abolverdi, SEC Country)

Q&A with UMass beat writer Matt Vautour: UMass is in its fifth year as an FBS member. (Ryan Young, SEC Country)

UMass players and coaches confident despite being overmatched: I mean, I would be surprised if they said anything different. (Ethan Bauer, Independent Florida Alligator; Shawn Rine, Weirton Daily Times)

So Verne Lundquist doesn’t think Jabar Gaffney made that catch:

I think I’m going to bring back trivia once a week in a CAB. This week instead of general Florida football trivia, I figured I’d single out the man of honor himself.

Steve Spurrier Trivia:
A) Steve Spurrier was the first coach in SEC history (and the second in major college football history) to lead a team to this many straight seasons of ten or more wins.
B) How many SEC titles did Spurrier win as coach of the Gators? Name them.
C) How many consecutive AP polls featured Steve Spurrier coached Gators teams in the rankings? (Bonus: What was the longest streak of consecutive top ten appearances? How about top five appearances?)
D) How many passing yards and touchdowns did Steve Spurrier have in his playing career at Florida?

Put your guesses in the comments and I’ll post the right answers later today, or this evening, so there is plenty of time to guess. Like most trivia, this will be more fun if you try to answer without looking it up first.

The comments are yours.
