Week 1 college football Sunday & Monday TV schedule and open thread: Labor Day weekend

College football Sunday AND Monday? Yes please.

NCAA Football: Texas at Baylor Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The 2016 college football opening week extravaganza continues into the holiday weekend. Tonight the Fighting Irish head down to Austin and tomorrow Ole Miss and Florida State descend on Orlando.

Here are the games scheduled for each day:

Sunday, September 4th

Notre Dame at Texas (7:30 p.m., ABC): The No. 10 Fighting Irish opened their season at home last year against the Longhorns. It did not go well for Texas. It’s Charlie Strong’s third season as head coach at Texas and his seat is definitely warm.

Monday, September 5th

Ole Miss vs. Florida State (8:00 p.m., ESPN): The No. 11 Rebels will meet the No. 4 Seminoles in Orlando at Camping World Stadium (aka the Citrus Bowl). I do not want to say nice things about FSU but the ‘Noles should have a very good team this year, led by Dalvin Cook. Ole Miss is replacing a lot – all five of its starters on the offensive line are gone, as are the Nkemdiche brothers and star receiver Laquon Treadwell. Chad Kelly is back at quarterback for the Rebels while freshman Deondre Francois has been named starter for the Seminoles.
