Week 7 college football TV schedule and open thread

Here’s what to watch before the Gators play.

NCAA Football: Big 12 Media Days Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Luckily for fans of the Florida Gators, the run-up to the evening shift seems to have the most interesting games to watch today. Week 7 isn’t the most intriguing on paper, but college football is always full of surprises (like Clemson losing to Syracuse last night).

Florida hosts Texas A&M at 7:00 p.m., on ESPN2, for their final game of a three-game home stand. Feel free to hang out in this thread while watching any of today’s games before the Gators play.

Here are our picks for today’s viewing windows:

Early (12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Eastern)

South Carolina at Tennessee (12:00 p.m. ESPN): This SEC East match-up has been competitive in recent years, with each of the last five games in the series being decided by three points or less. Will Muschamp’s Florida and South Carolina teams have never lost to the Vols, while Butch Jones’ team hopes to bounce back, having not taken the field since their home demolishing by Georgia.

Texas Tech at West Virginia (12:00 p.m., ESPNU): The No. 24 Red Raiders, back in the AP poll for the first time in four years, are off to a 4-1 start and hope to add another win in Morgantown. I’m hesitant to recommend watching the Will Grier-led Mountaineers to some Gator fans, but this could be an entertaining game as both teams have very potent offenses and more forgiving defenses.

Florida State at Duke (12:00 p.m., ESPN2): You’d assume these records would be reversed, but the Seminoles are 1-3 and the Blue Devils are 4-2. After starting 4-0, Duke picked up two losses, showing inefficiencies on offense. The Blue Devils are the only ACC team that FSU has never lost to. Miami snapped a ‘Noles win streak last week, but Duke, who lost big to the Hurricanes this season, will have more of a challenge matching up with Florida State.

In other games: Also at noon, No. 6 TCU visits Kansas State, No. 17 Michigan plays at Indiana, and BYU heads to Starkville to take on Mississippi State - the second SEC West contest for the one-win Cougars this season.

Afternoon (3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern)

Oklahoma at Texas (3:30 p.m., ESPN): The Red River Rivalry (or Shootout or Showdown, or whatever you want to call it) between the Sooners and Longhorns is in the Cotton Bowl is this afternoon. Oklahoma would love to move on from their upsetting loss to Iowa State last week, while Texas is coming off of a double-overtime win over Kansas State. This will be the first edition of this rivalry for both teams’ new coaches.

Auburn at LSU (3:30 p.m., CBS): The SEC West Tigers tango this afternoon. The No. 10 Auburn Tigers have not won in Baton Rouge since 1999, but have won two of the last three against the Bayou Bengals. LSU bounced back from their embarrassing homecoming loss to Troy last week with a narrow victory over Florida, but Auburn’s defense is formidable and their offense has been highly efficient - they should give the purple and gold Tigers trouble.

Georgia Tech at Miami (3:30 p.m., ABC): The Hurricanes are atop the ACC Coastal and looking to avoid a letdown against the visiting Yellow Jackets after exorcising their demons against Florida State. These two teams are tied in the all-time series, but Miami has won seven out of the last eight and hasn’t lost to Georgia Tech at home since 2007.

In other games: Also at 3:30 p.m., Vanderbilt travels to Ole Miss and Baylor visits Oklahoma State.

Evening (7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern)

Obviously, you will be watching Florida host Texas A&M at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.

In other games: At 7:00 p.m., another sunshine state team wearing alternate apparel, undefeated No. 22 UCF, hosts East Carolina for homecoming. In the SEC, Arkansas visits Alabama and Missouri plays between the hedges at Georgia.

And here is your schedule table for today.
