Two Florida Gators were honored Monday by the SEC for their performances against Vanderbilt, the league announced.
Freshman running back Malik Davis was named SEC Freshman of the Week after a 124-yard, two-touchdown breakout on the ground that saw him carry the Gators late in a close game for the second consecutive week, while redshirt freshman offensive lineman Brett Heggie was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for helping pave the way for Davis.
Per Florida, Davis ranks fifth nationally among true freshmen with 321 rushing yards on the season, and Heggie graded out as the Gators’ best offensive lineman against the Commodores, earning him co-offensive player of the game honors from the team.
The SEC honors are the third and fourth for Gators in 2017. Freshman defensive back C.J. Henderson was named Freshman of the Week after procuring his second career pick-six against Tennessee, while junior defensive lineman CeCe Jefferson was named Defensive Player of the Week last week after a disruptive effort against Kentucky.
