Florida punter Johnny Townsend snubbed by Ray Guy Award: Townsend is second in the nation in punting, and was first just two weeks ago. He was not among the ten semifinalists announced for the award for college football’s top punter yesterday. Four of those semifinalists average at least four fewer yards per punt than Townsend, with two having punting averages outside of the top-50 nationally, and two not having enough punts to qualify for those rankings. A representative from the Sports Council, which gives out the award, said the committee considers many statistics, including percentage of punts returned and opponent return yardage.
