Florida vs. FSU, Game Thread: Obligations are obligations

NCAA Football: Alabama-Birmingham at Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Rarely in the several decades of the rivalry between the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles has there been a game as little-wanted or lightly-anticipated as 2017’s version.

This is just the second game between Florida and FSU football teams that both enter with losing records, and this is the first one from a time when the United States was not at war in Vietnam. Jokes about how this game — airing on ESPN, sure, but at noon — should have been ticketed for channels no one watches at times no one is awake were jokes made out of a sincere desire by fans of both teams to not have to watch their bad football teams play bad football against each other.

And yet: One of those bad football teams will win this game, and secure the right for fans and alumni to brag that their bad football team is slightly better than your bad football team.

Gotta love sports. Or something.

Please share whatever thoughts you have about Florida taking on FSU — or literally anything else: the best Yankee Candle varieties? The worst Donald Trump tweets? The things you are actually doing this Saturday instead of watching this game? — in the comments.

Go, uh, Gators?
