Early Signing Period 2017 discussion thread: Florida’s 2018 recruiting class takes shape

The Florida Gators have begun the 2017 early signing period hot, confirming the signings of eight members of their 2018 recruiting class by announcing them publicly.

But those signings, though they include the names of four-star commits like Dameon Pierce and Amari Burney, could pale in comparison to what is to come later on Wednesday.

The potential centerpiece of Florida’s class, Georgia quarterback Emory Jones, is set to announce his decision at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday — and while Jones is currently an Ohio State commit, and visited Florida State after visiting Florida this weekend, Florida holds the large majority of the Crystal Ball predictions for Jones, and Gators head coach Dan Mullen’s long relationship with Jones may potentially sway him to swing to the Gators.

And later in the afternoon, Georgia safety Trey Dean — another four-star safety, and a player who would be Florida’s fourth safety commit in the 2018 recruiting class — will also make his college choice public. And, like Jones, Dean is seen as a Florida lean, with the Gators holding more than 25 Crystal Ball predictions for his pick.

In addition, Florida may yet get the signings of multiple other commitments done on Wednesday. Tight end Dante Lang and linebacker David Reese are still expected to sign on Wednesday, and both are considered locks to sign with the Gators.

All of this is understandably exciting, confusing, vexing, and exhilarating — it’s hanging on the whims of teenagers, so why wouldn’t it be, really? If you want to do that with us today, we’d be honored — and the comments beneath this post are where you can best do it.
