South Florida defensive back Brian Edwards committed to the Florida Gators on National Signing Day 2017 in an announcement at his Miramar High School on Wednesday, choosing the Gators over Miami.

Edwards’ commitment to Florida was not entirely surprising, as the Gators were still assumed to have a shot with the three-star DB. Just today, predictions began to shift towards Florida for both Edwards and another DB, Miami-based CB Chris Henderson, who were both considered to be Miami leans before National Signing Day.

But Henderson committed to the Gators earlier this afternoon and Edwards followed suit. Florida had received Edwards’ last official visit this past weekend.

Edwards is a three-star player projected to play either cornerback or safety. He is 6’3”, 195 pounds, and rated as the No. 58 cornerback nationally by 247Sports.

Check out his highlights below:

Edwards is the fifth cornerback in Florida’s 2017 class, joining Marco Wilson, Shawn Davis, Brad Stewart — who played cornerback in high school but may profile as a safety at Florida, and Henderson.

Edwards’ commitment gives the Gators 22 players in their 2017 recruiting class and will boost Florida’s class ranking, likely cementing it as a top-15 class.
