Weekend Open Thread: Alligators away

Most of this weekend’s Gator action is happening away from Gainesville.

In a reversing of last week’s scheduling circumstances, most Florida teams play away from home this weekend, with only men’s tennis hosting competition on campus. The men’s tennis team were the only Gators that were on the road last weekend. This weekend, baseball and softball have three-game SEC series, both tennis teams conclude regular season play, and gymnastics competes at the NCAA Championships.

Below you’ll find what is happening in Gator sports this weekend, as well as how to follow along.

Friday, April 14

Men’s tennis
Florida vs. Mississippi State, 5:00 p.m. (Watch, Stats): The Gators return home for their final two home matches of the season. Florida’s penultimate home stand finds them hosting the Bulldogs.

Softball
Florida vs. Kentucky, 6:00 p.m. (SEC Network+/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): The Gators, fresh off a walk-off home win over Florida State, travel to Lexington for a three-game SEC series with the Wildcats. It’ll be Florida’s first meeting with Kentucky since 2015.

Women’s tennis
Florida vs. Kentucky, 6:00 p.m. (Stats): Having concluded home play, the Gators travel to Lexington, like their softball counterparts, to face the Wildcats. Top-ranked Florida plays two top-15 ranked teams in their final matches, with No. 11 Kentucky up first.

Baseball
Florida vs. Vanderbilt, 7:30 p.m. (SEC Network+/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): The Gators continue their three-game weekend SEC series in Nashville against the Commodores. Florida picked up a 10-6 comeback victory over Vanderbilt yesterday in the series’ opener. Brandy Singer will be on the mound tonight for the Gators. He has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his eight starts so far this season.

Gymnastics
NCAA Championships - Semifinal II, 8:00 p.m. (ESPNU/WatchESPN, Stats): Florida is in St. Louis, making their 35th appearance in the NCAA Championships. The No. 3 Gators are competing in Semifinal Group II, which includes No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Michigan, No. 10 Georgia, and No. 14 Nebraska. The top three teams from that group advance to Saturday’s Super Six, along with the top three teams from Semifinal I.

Saturday, April 15

Track and field
Horned Frogs Invitational, All Day: Florida competes in the Horned Frog Invitational meet, hosted by TCU. Arizona, Northern Illinois, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech will also participate in the meet, along with the Gators and Horned Frogs.

Lacrosse
Florida vs. Butler, 12:00 p.m. (Stats): The Gators head to Indianapolis to play Butler, a Big East conference newcomer, for the first time. Florida’s Caroline Fitzgerald is just two ground balls away from passing Nora Barry (141) for the program’s most all-time.

Baseball
Florida vs. Vanderbilt, 3:00 p.m. (ESPN2/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): The weekend series with the Commodores comes to a close. Jackson Kowar gets the start for the Gators in the series finale.

Softball
Florida vs. Kentucky, 3:00 p.m. (SEC Network+/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): The Gators continue their SEC series with the Wildcats in Lexington. Coming into this week, Kelly Barnhill was the nation’s leader in ERA, with Delanie Gourley and Aleshia Ocasio both ranking inside the top-ten as well. Florida is the only school with three pitchers ranked inside the top-ten.

Gymnastics
NCAA Super Six, 9:00 p.m. (ESPNU/WatchESPN, Stats): Should Florida emerge as one of the top three teams after Friday evening’s semifinal, the Gators will compete with the other two top teams from their semifinal, as well as the top three teams from Friday afternoon’s semifinal, for a national title.

Sunday, April 16

Women’s tennis
Florida vs. Vanderbilt, 12:00 p.m.: The top-ranked Gators conclude regular season play on the road in Nashville against the No. 5 Commodores.

Men’s tennis
Florida vs. Auburn, 1:00 p.m. (Watch, Stats): The Gators host the Tigers for their final home match of the season, and final match of the regular season. Florida will celebrate senior day for seniors Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin.

Softball
Florida vs. Kentucky, 1:00 p.m. (SEC Network+/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): The Gators wrap up their weekend series with the Wildcats. Florida returns home Wednesday for a midweek game with UCF.
