Weekend Open Thread: Florida tussles in tournaments

National and league tournament action is on deck for the Gators this week.

This weekend finds those Florida Gator teams still in action competing in league or national tournaments or meets. Both tennis teams are involved in NCAA Tournament singles and doubles play, while Florida baseball continues competition at the SEC Tournament. The softball Gators are hosting their NCAA Super Regional with Alabama, and need a win tonight to continue on in competition.

Below you’ll find what is happening in Gator sports this weekend, as well as how to follow along.

Friday, May 26

Men’s tennis
Singles and Doubles Round of 16, TBD (Watch, Stats): Florida’s Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen defeated their Round of 32 opponent in doubles play yesterday and move on to today’s competition. Perez also advances to the Round of 16 in singles play.

Women’s tennis
NCAA Singles (Third Round) & Doubles (Second Round) Championships, All Day (Watch, Stats): Anna Danilina and Belinda Woolcock will compete in the Singles’ Round of 16, while Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan take part in the doubles competition.

Baseball
Florida vs. Mississippi State, SEC Tournament, 12:00 p.m. (SEC Network/WatchESPN, Stats): The Gators face the Bulldogs today in the winner’s bracket. Mississippi State edged Arkansas, 4-3, to advance to meet Florida.

Track and field
NCAA East Preliminary, 2:00 p.m. (SEC Network+/WatchESPN, Stats): Florida spends their second day in Eugene at the event. Five of the eight Gators with a chance to clinch an NCAA Outdoor Championships berth did so yesterday.

Softball
Florida vs. Alabama, NCAA Super Regional, 7:00 p.m. (ESPN/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): After dropping their first game against the Tide on Thursday, the Gators need to pick up a win tonight to force a third game with Alabama on Saturday, where the two teams will battle for a ticket to the Women’s College World Series. Delanie Gourley will be on the mound for Florida.

Saturday, May 26

Baseball
SEC Tournament, TBD (SEC Network/WatchESPN, Stats): If Florida defeats Mississippi State on Friday afternoon, the Gators would advance to Saturday’s semifinal action.

Men’s tennis
Singles and Doubles Quarterfinals, TBD (Watch, Stats): Should the Gators emerge victorious from Round of 16 play, they will advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.

Women’s tennis
NCAA Singles (Quarterfinals) & Doubles (Quarterfinals) Championships, All Day (Watch, Stats): Should the Gators advance after Friday’s action, they would play in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament today.

Track and field
NCAA East Preliminary, 2:00 p.m. (SEC Network+/WatchESPN, Stats): Florida concludes action in Eugene at the NCAA East Preliminary meet. All the events of the day are finals.

Softball
Florida vs. Alabama - if necessary, NCAA Super Regional, 5:00 p.m. (ESPN/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): If the Gators pick up a much-needed win on Friday, this game will decide which program wins the Super Regional, and advances to the Women’s College World Series.

Sunday, May 28

Men’s tennis
Singles and Doubles Semifinals, TBD (Watch, Stats): Should Florida win their quarterfinals on Saturdays on Satur, the Gators will advance to the semifinals of the NCAA singles and doubles tournament.

Women’s tennis
NCAA Singles (Semifinals) & Doubles (Semifinals) Championships, All Day (Watch, Stats): If Florida advances after Saturday’s quarterfinal play, they would compete in the semifinals of today.

Baseball
SEC Tournament Final, 3:00 p.m. (ESPN2/WatchESPN, Stats): The SEC Tournament concludes with the final game on Sunday. If the Gators play Saturday, and are victorious, they would compete for the tournament title.
