Omaha, Omaha, Omaha: Florida makes third straight College World Series

The Gators came through in the clutch.

It took three games and more than 50 hours — nearly 10 of them spent in rain delays — for the Florida Gators and Wake Forest Demon Deacons to finally settle a dramatic, topsy-turvy Gainesville Super Regional.

But settle it they did on Monday — with Florida authoring another dramatic chapter in a season that has not lacked for high-leverage situations, and earning an 11th trip to Omaha for the College World Series.

Florida got a brilliant combined outing from Brady Singer, Tyler Dyson, and Alex Faedo in Monday’s second game, and scratched out three runs with the aid of a JJ Schwarz homer, taking a 3-0 win that sealed the Gainesville Super Regional.

It will be Florida’s third consecutive appearance in Omaha for the final event of collegiate baseball season, and the Gators’ sixth under Kevin O’Sullivan in less than a decade.

And the 3-0 victory in the nightcap of what turned into a day-night doubleheader washed away any bad feelings from Game 2, won by Wake Forest on a Ben Breazeale walk-off homer.

Game 3 went a little better.
