Florida football recruiting: 2019 WR Maurice Goolsby commits to Gators

Florida keeps loading its 2019 class with playmakers.

The Florida Gators are set up for a strong summer in recruiting. Kicking off June with a second commitment in three days on Saturday — this one from Dunnellon High’s Maurice Goolsby — has certainly helped.

Goolsby announced his commitment on Twitter early Saturday morning, calling Florida his “dream school.”

Jim McElwain’s #ChompChomp tweet followed just under an hour later — this time, with ALL CAPS after the hashtag.

It’s tempting to say that those capital letters have something to do with how literally big a commitment Goolsby is. If he is truly 6’5”, as his 247Sports profile suggests, Goolsby is taller as a rising junior in high school than any player on Florida’s current roster at either wide receiver or tight end.

But Goolsby isn’t a big, plodding target: In his sophomore-year highlights, he shows surprising quickness for a bigger receiver, breaking slants and screens for three big plays in the first four clips. That combination of size and speed has made him a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ estimation, though Goolsby is not yet rated by all of the major recruiting services.

Goolsby is Florida’s seventh commitment for the 2019 recruiting class, and once again pushes the Gators’ crop of 2019 commits to No. 1 nationally. Of the Gators’ seven 2019 commits, three are wide receivers.

Goolsby’s pledge is also Florida’s third commitment this week, following the Thursday commitment of 2018 safety Amari Burney, and the May 28 commitment of 2019 defensive back Trent Whittemore.
