Current Florida Gators ambassador and walking sound bite Steve Spurrier was in Shreveport, Louisiana, today to speak at the Independence Bowl’s Kickoff Luncheon event.

No one ribs a rival quite like the Head Ball Coach and he did not disappoint during his stop in the Bayou State.
Florida and LSU have recently escalated their rivalry in the wake of the post-Hurricane Matthew scheduling debacle. The flames have been further fanned since then by the Gators’ goal-line stand SEC East-clinching win in Baton Rouge, and Florida’s decision to schedule the Tigers for homecoming this year. (In other sports, the Gators also bested the Tigers for their first baseball national championship crown this season at the College World Series.)
Spurrier was speaking about the importance of recruiting to those gathered at today’s kickoff event, and dropped the following gem on the crowd - according to Shreveport Times reporter Roy Lang, who was in attendance.
"You can have good ball players and still not win football games -- all you LSU fans know about that."

Steve Spurrier. @IndyBowl
The Tigers’ recruiting classes have been ranked in the top-ten every year since 2013. But while LSU has signed their share of highly ranked prospects in recent years, the Tigers have not necessarily translated that to soaring success on the field, finishing third or fourth in the SEC West each year since then.
Today’s Spurrier quip is the latest in a long line of priceless one-liners from the Head Ball Coach, including classics like “Free Shoes University,” a litany of Georgia jabs, and various Citrus Bowl-related disses about Tennessee.
Football seasons and coaches may come and go, but Steve Spurrier is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
