Florida vs. LSU kickoff set for 3:30 p.m., CBS

The Gators and Tigers get the Eye Network showcase slot.

This afternoon, it was announced that the Florida Gators will host the LSU Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, in The Swamp. The game will be broadcast on CBS.

I don’t think there was much doubt that this meeting would get the SEC on CBS featured slot, though I heard some rumblings that perhaps Alabama at Texas A&M might supplant it there. I’d have to think that Alabama’s absolute crushing of Vanderbilt and the Aggies’ defensive difficulties helped turn the tide there (pun intended).

October 7 also marks homecoming for the Gators, though not literally as Florida will actually be playing their second home game in a three-game home streak when the Tigers come to town. The Gators kick off that three-game stretch in The Swamp with Vanderbilt this weekend.

Of course, had Hurricane Matthew not caused a schedule reshuffling last season, the Gators would be heading to Baton Rouge rather than hosting LSU. Florida agreed to make that trip last season, and we all remember that ending pretty well for the team in orange and blue.

Florida still has to wait to get a night game at home this season (that isn’t cancelled), but perhaps their match-up the following week with the aforementioned Aggies will secure them a spot under the lights.
