Open Thread: Under Armour All-American Game

Four Gator signees take part in the annual showcase event.

This evening, many of the nation’s most talented high school football players will take part in the annual Under Armour All-American Game, taking place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The 6:00 p.m. game will air on ESPN2 and is available for streaming via WatchESPN.

108 players were chosen to participate in the 11th edition of the showcase event, which often features several coveted collegiate prospects making their commitment announcements on national television, and gives athletes a showcase prior to them inking with a school on National Signing Day.

However, with this year’s early signing period taking place for the first time in December, a whopping 74 of the game’s participants have already signed with their respective schools.

Florida has four signees taking part in the game - quarterback Emory Jones, kicker Evan McPherson, safety Trey Dean, and tight end Kyle Pitts. Four-star offensive lineman Richard Gouraige, a Florida commit who did not sign with the Gators during the early signed period - and is expected to visit other schools, will also be participating.

The Gators are in the mix for several uncommitted or unsigned prospects taking part in the event. These recruits include speedy wide receiver Anthony Schwartz - who plans to commit at the game and is widely expected to chose Auburn over Florida, former Gator wide receiver commits Jacob Copeland and Ja’Marr Chase, and uncommitted five-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere.

Jones, Copeland, and Chase will all be playing together on Team Highlight, along with Florida signee Dean. Gator signees Pitts and McPherson are on Team Spotlight, along with prospects Schwarz, Petit-Frere, and current UF commit Gouraige. Some other names to note include four-star wide receivers Justyn Ross and Tommy Bush, Auburn defensive tackle commit Coynis Miller - who plans to visit Florida, Texas A&M wide receiver commit Jalen Preston, who Emory Jones is attempting to recruit; and four-star wide receiver Justin Watkins, who was expected to chose between Alabama and LSU this week, but instead postponed his announcement, eliminated the Tide, and added Florida to the mix. Alabama linebacker commit Quay Walker, Kentucky linebacker commit Xavier Peters, and highly coveted cornerback Olaijah Griffin have also indicated intentions to visit the Gators.
