Week 11 college football TV schedule and open thread

Here’s what to watch now that the Gators have played.

Now that the Florida Gators have left the field with a win over South Carolina, you can leisurely turn your attention to this afternoon and evening’s other college football action.

The slate features a few rivalries - though it by and large seems to pit over-matched teams against higher ranked opponents. But there is always a chance for shenanigans and surprises on any college football Saturday.

Here are our picks for today’s viewing windows:

Afternoon (3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Eastern)

Mississippi State at Alabama (3:30 p.m., CBS): In the first such example, the No. 16 Bulldogs will likely become another victim to fall at the altar of the No. 1 Tide. With State’s offensive challenges and strong defense, this one could perhaps stay close for a quarter before Bama pulls away.

Oklahoma State at Oklahoma (3:30 p.m., ABC): The No. 6 Sooners host the Cowboys for their annual Bedlam rivalry game. Oklahoma should run away with this one, but it may devolve into a shootout.

Kentucky at Tennessee (3:30 p.m., SECN): I doubt this game will actually contain quality football or be particularly entertaining, but it may be interesting to see how the No. 11 Wildcats rebound after their second loss of the season (and having their SEC East hopes dashed) against the up-and-down but somewhat improving Volunteers.

In other games: Also at 3:30 p.m., No. 8 Washington State visits Colorado (ESPN) and Northwestern takes on No. 21 Iowa (FOX).

Evening (7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern)

Auburn at Georgia (7:00 p.m., ESPN): The not at all suspiciously recently ranked No. 24 Tigers go between the hedges with the No. 5 Bulldogs. This is another heated rivalry game which the favored team should easily win on paper, but who knows?

Florida State at Notre Dame (7:30 p.m., NBC): The No. 3 Irish will now be without starting QB Ian Book against the ‘Noles, which could suddenly make this game a little more interesting than it might have been otherwise.

Clemson at Boston College (8:00 p.m., ABC): Here, somehow, is the designated game of the week. The No. 2 Tigers travel to Boston College to face Steve Addazio’s No. 17 Eagles, who hope to have premier tailback AJ Dillon available for the game.

In other games: At 7:00 p.m., No. 19 Texas is at Texas Tech (7:30 p.m., FOX) - for another potential Big 12 shootout - and No. 7 LSU visits Arkansas (SECN). I suppose the Tigers could have a post-Alabama hangover against the Hogs, who do have a periodically competent offense.

And here is your schedule table for today’s games.
