Weekend Open Thread: Gator meets and matches

Florida has several teams taking part in competitive events this weekend.

Spring sports are getting back in swing, which means that our weekend open threads for Florida Gators sports are back as well. Florida’s swimming teams are at a meet in Auburn, its tennis teams are taking part in a televised event of college matches in Orlando, gymnastics is hitting the road, and men’s basketball returns home.

Below you’ll find what is happening in Gator sports this weekend, as well as how to follow along.

Friday, February 2

Swimming and diving
Auburn Invitational, All Day (Stats): The No. 3 Florida men’s team and the No. 17 Gator women’s team will swim each day this week at the Auburn Invitational, along with teams from Auburn, Alabama, and Florida State. The Gator men have defeated all three of these teams already this season, while the women hold a 2-1 record over that field.

Track and field
Bayou Bengal Invitational, All Day (Stats): The No. 1 men’s team and No. 5 women’s team are sending a group of six throwers to Friday’s Bayou Bengal Invitational, which is hosted by LSU. Florida’s men will throw in the 12:30 p.m. event, while the women will throw at 2:30 p.m. and participate in shot put at 6:00 p.m.

Gymnastics
Florida vs. Auburn, 7:00 p.m. (SECN/WatchESPN, Stats): The No. 5 Gators are at the No. 17 Tigers tonight. Florida is coming off of their defeat of top-ranked Oklahoma next weekend, where Alex McMurtry posted two 10.0s and the Gators posted 16 season-best marks.

Saturday, February 3

Swimming and diving
Auburn Invitational, All Day (Stats): Florida continues competition at the Auburn-hosted meet. This is the final invitational meet of the season for the Gators.

Men’s basketball
Florida vs. Alabama, 4:00 p.m. (ESPN/WatchESPN, Listen, Stats): The No. 23 Gators host the Tide and will try to bounce back from a puzzling and disappointing loss to Georgia. As a result of that loss, Florida is two games behind Auburn in the SEC standings and in a second-place tie with Kentucky and Tennessee.

Men’s tennis
Florida vs. Florida State, 7:00 p.m. (Tennis Channel, Stats): The No. 8 Gators meet the rival No. 22 Seminoles at the USTA National Campus event in Orlando. The series is tied 1-1 when the two teams meet on a neutral court.

Women’s tennis
Florida vs. Florida State, 7:00 p.m. (Tennis Channel; Stats): Florida’s women’s tennis team will also face the Seminoles at the same time that the men’s team does, on the other side of the 12-court stadium in Orlando.

Sunday, February 4

Swimming and diving
Auburn Invitational, All Day (Stats): The Gators conclude competition in Auburn.
