Watkins gathered more than 20 offers during his recruiting process, from such schools as Alabama, Florida State, LSU, and Texas. Florida made him a priority in December and January under Mullen after never fully pursuing him under Jim McElwain, and that effort and attention turned into a commitmnet from the talented athlete.
Watkins is the first wide receiver commit to officially sign onto Florida’s 2018 class. He’s the 14th signee of the 2018 class, including the Gators’ 13 early signing period signees, and the first player to sign on National Signing Day.
