Chatfield was committed to Ohio State for much of 2017, but reopened his commitment in July after visiting Florida for Saturday Night Lights and being offered by the Gators.
A source told Alligator Army shortly after Friday Night Lights that Chatfield had committed to Florida coaches at that time. Obviously, that commitment never became public, and the Gators firing Jim McElwain and then turning over the entire coaching staff that Chatfield had committed to essentially reset his recruitment — but Chatfield did ultimately end up a Gator, months after originally committing to be one.
Chatfield is the 17th commitment in Florida’s 2018 class, and the second player to sign today, following wide receiver Justin Watkins.
