Weekend Open Thread: Gators at home fields

Florida’s baseball and softball teams are both hosting several games this weekend.

Florida baseball and softball are again hosting this weekend - and once again, the baseball Gators are playing in a top-ten series. The track and field team will also be taking part in the Pepsi Florida Relays, located in Gainesville. Both men’s and women’s tennis teams are also in action, as are the lacrosse and volleyball teams.

Below you’ll find what is happening in Gator sports this weekend, as well as how to follow along.

Friday, March 30

Track and field
Pepsi Florida Relays, 9:30 a.m.: Florida began hosting the 74th Pepsi Florida Relays on Thursday, with competition continuing through Saturday. Collegiate action comprises the majority of Friday’s schedule.

Softball
Florida vs. Hampton, 10:00 a.m.: Due to potential weather complications in the afternoon, the Gators have moved up their Friday game times. Headed into the weekend, Florida is undefeated against both of their weekend opponents, Hampton and Jacksonville.

Florida vs. Jacksonville, 12:00 p.m.: The Gators commence the second of their two Friday games. Florida last bested the Dolphins in February of the 2017 season. (Note: There is a chance that the weekend game schedule could be altered due to weather. Check Florida softball’s Twitter account for updates.)

Men’s tennis
Florida vs. Wake Forest, 3:00 p.m.: The No. 10 Gators visit the top-ranked Demon Deacons in a weekend top-ten away showdown. This will be Florida’s final non-conference match of the regular season.

Baseball
Florida vs. Vanderbilt, 6:30 p.m.: Another weekend, another top-ten series for the Gators. Florida is in the midst of a seven-game stretch against opponents ranked in the top-ten. Coming into this weekend, the Gators have won seven of the last ten regular season series with the Commodores. (Note: There is a chance that the weekend game schedule could be altered due to weather. Check Florida baseball’s Twitter account for updates.)

Saturday, March 31

Track and field
Pepsi Florida Relays, 9:30 a.m.: Competition concludes at the Gainesville-based meet. Every track event on Saturday is a relay.

Women’s tennis
Florida vs. Missouri, 11:00 a.m.: The Gators play their second of three games in four days on Friday. Florida started things off with a win over Arkansas on Thursday and now host another SEC squad with the Tigers in town.

Baseball
Florida vs. Vanderbilt, 12:00 p.m.: The Gators continue their weekend hosting the ‘Dores. Heading into this weekend, junior closer Michael Byrne only needed one more save to overtake the Florida career saves record - which he is already tied for (25).

Lacrosse
Florida vs. UConn, 12:00 p.m.: The Gators host the Huskies at home after last playing three games in six days a week ago. Florida has won 24 consecutive games against Big East opponents dating back to the 2015 season.

Softball
Florida vs. Hampton, 1:00 p.m.: The No. 4 Gators continue their weekend hosting Hampton and Jacksonville with another double-header day on Saturday. So far this season, junior Amanda Lorenz has reached base safely in every game.

Volleyball
Florida vs. Georgia Tech, 1:45 p.m.: Spring scrimmage competition continues as the Gators visit Georgia Tech for a day of competition. First up for Florida is the home team Ramblin’ Wrecks.

Softball
Florida vs. Jacksonville, 3:30 p.m.: The Gators conclude their four-game weekend. Coming into this weekend, Florida has a program record seven no-hitters, six individual and one combined, on the season.

Volleyball
Florida vs. Georgia, 4:45 p.m.: Spring competition in Atlanta continues with the Bulldogs on deck next for the Gators.

Sunday, April 1

Baseball
Florida vs. Vanderbilt, 12:00 p.m.: The Gators conclude their three-game weekend series with the Commodores. Coming into this weekend, Florida has hit 17 home runs over their last nine games. For the year, the Gators have 41 homers - 22 more than they had through 27 games last season.

Men’s tennis
Florida vs. South Carolina, 1:00 p.m.: After their Friday marquee match-up with No. 1 Wake Forest, the Gators travel to Columbia for a conference showdown with the Gamecocks.

Women’s tennis
Florida vs. Texas, 5:00 p.m.: The No. 12 Gators head out of conference play for a meeting with the No. 7 Longhorns in Orlando. Florida entered the weekend tied with Vanderbilt for second in the SEC standings.

And here are your schedule tables for this weekend’s events.
