Mississippi State comes back to defeat Gators in series opener: The Bulldogs scored six runs late to defeat Florida 6-3 in game one in Starkville. Kevin O’Sullivan chose to start freshman Tommy Mace for the first time this season against the Bulldogs, leaving Brady Singer and Jackson Kowar available for the weekend, as Tyler Dyson is dealing with a shoulder injury and Jack Leftwich threw four days ago. Mace had a terrific outing, before being replaced in the seventh by Jordan Butler. (Daniel Apple, Florida Gators; Nick de la Torre, Gator Country)

"He threw outstanding, even more than I thought. I probably could have left him in there in the seventh but I was really trying to be careful about him coming away feeling good about himself because we’ll really need him down the stretch.
Game one didn't go as planned, but tomorrow's a new day.
