Weekend Open Thread: Gators in tournament tilts

Several Florida teams continue in NCAA and SEC tournament competition.

Florida’s softball team tries to punch its ticket back to the Women’s College World Series, while the Gator baseball team tries to add an SEC Tournament title to its regular season one. Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams have players still in individual or doubles competition, while Florida’s men’s golf team is at the NCAA Championships and the track and field team is in NCAA Regional competition.

Below you’ll find what is happening in Gator sports this weekend, as well as how to follow along.

Friday, May 25

Men’s golf
NCAA Tournament, All day: After winning their NCAA Regional, Florida advances to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The first three days are comprised of 54-hole round play. The Gators will be partnered with SEC foes Vanderbilt and Alabama in the first two rounds of play.

Baseball
Florida vs. Arkansas, SEC Tournament, 11:00 a.m.: Originally scheduled for last night, the Gators’ second game of the SEC Tournament was postponed to this morning. Should Florida be victorious, they will advance to Saturday’s semifinal game. If the Gators fall to the Razorbacks, they will head to the loser’s bracket and face LSU Friday night in an elimination game.

Women’s tennis
NCAA Singles Tournament - Anna Danilina, 11:00 a.m.: Florida senior Anna Danilina advanced to the round-of-16 and will face Duke’s Kelly Chen in a best of three match set.

Men’s tennis
NCAA Singles Tournament - Alfredo Perez, 11:30 a.m.: Gator junior Alfredo Perez, recently named an ITA All-American, faces Mississippi State’s Nuno Borges for a chance at a trip to the quarterfinals.

Track and field
NCAA East Region Preliminary, 12:00 p.m.: Florida continues competition in Eugene at the NCAA Regional event, which commenced on Thursday. Today’s event include hurdles, meter races, and discus throw.

Men’s tennis
NCAA Doubles Tournament - McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale, 1:00 p.m. / Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez, 3:00 p.m.: Two sets of Gators have advanced to the round-of-16. McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale face Miami’s Christian Langmo and Adria Soriano Barrera at 1:00 p.m., while Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez face Fabian Fallert and Tim Sandkaulen from Ole Miss at 3:00 p.m.

Softball
Florida vs. Texas A&M, NCAA Super Regional, 7:00 p.m.: The Gators are one game up on the visiting Aggies, thanks to Thursday night’s walk-off win. Florida would love to clinch the series, and a trip to Oklahoma City, with a win on Friday.

Saturday, May 26

Men’s golf
NCAA Tournament, All day: Florida continues competition in Oklahoma. In their two previous appearances at the Karsten Creek course, the Gators finished 23 out of 30 schools in 2011 and in 2003 Florida tied for fourth.

Baseball
SEC Tournament Semifinals, TBD: If the Gators are able to survive and advance, they will appear in Saturday’s semifinals with a chance at making Sunday’s championship. Check the SEC Baseball Tournament Bracket for information on opponent, times, and television options.

Women’s tennis
NCAA Singles Tournament Quarterfinals, TBD: Should Anna Danilina advance, she will enter the quarterfinals and play the winner of the round-of-16 match between Washington’s Stacey Fung and perennial Gator rival Vanderbilt’s Fernanda Contreras.

Men’s tennis
NCAA Singles Tournament Quarterfinals, TBD: Should Alfredo Perez advance, he will face another SEC opponent - either Tennessee’s Timo Stodder or Kentucky’s Ryotaro Matsumura. Check the NCAA website bracket for time and opponent information.

Men’s tennis
NCAA Doubles Tournament Quarterfinals, TBD: Should either or both of the Gator double teams still in contention advance, they will play in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Check the NCAA website bracket for time and opponent information.

Track and field
NCAA East Region Preliminary, 12:30 p.m.: Florida concludes competition at the event. Saturday’s events include relays, triple jump, high jump, meter races, and shot put.

Softball
Florida vs. Texas A&M, NCAA Super Regional, 5:00 p.m.: Should the Gators drop Friday’s contest with the Aggies, Florida will need to best them on Saturday in order to advance to the Women’s College World Series.

Sunday, May 27

Men’s golf
NCAA Tournament, All day: Florida participates in the final day of the opening three-day round play. The field will be cut to 15 after three rounds, with the fourth round of stroke determining the final eight for match play.

Women’s tennis
NCAA Singles Tournament Semifinals, TBD: If Anna Danilina is able to advance, she will play in Sunday’s semifinals. Check the NCAA bracket for opponent and time information.

Men’s tennis
NCAA Singles Tournament Semifinals, TBD: If Alfredo Perez is able to advance, he will play in Sunday’s semifinals. Check the NCAA website bracket for time and opponent information.

Men’s tennis
NCAA Doubles Tournament Semifinals, TBD: Should one of the Gator doubles teams still in contention advance, they will play in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Check the NCAA website bracket for time and opponent information.

Baseball
SEC Tournament Championship, 3:00 p.m.: If the Gators are able to make it through to the finals, they will play Sunday afternoon for a chance to add a tournament title to their regular-season one. Check the SEC Baseball Tournament Bracket for information on opponent.
