Gainesville Super Regional open thread: Florida, Auburn vie for College World Series berth

The Florida Gators are two wins away from the College World Series.

Unfortunately, so are the Auburn Tigers — and they bring the No. 1 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft with them to Gainesville.

Casey Mize, the Detroit Tigers’ No. 1 overall selection in this week’s MLB Draft, squares off with Brady Singer, Florida’s ace and a future Kansas City Royal, in Saturday’s Game 1 of the Gainesville Super Regional. If it goes like it did the last time Singer and Mize took the mound in Gainesville, Florida’s actually in good shape: The Gators got a 3-1 win over Auburn in a late-April showdown between the two stud pitchers, thanks largely to a great day from Jonathan India.

And if Florida can go up 1-0 in this weekend’s series, the Gators have a second first-rounder to turn to in Jackson Kowar for a potential closeout game on Sunday.
