College football TV schedule and open thread: New Year’s Day bowls

If you’d like to ease into 2019 with some college football, there are five games for you to feast your eyes upon today.

Outback Bowl
Mississippi State vs. Iowa (12:00 p.m., ESPN2): The No. 18 Bulldogs are in Tampa squaring off against the Hawkeyes - themselves frequent Outback Bowl participants - in what would seem to be a low-scoring affair.

LSU vs. UCF (1:00 p.m., ESPN): Will the No. 11 Tigers be the team to finally vanquish the No. 8 Knights and end the nation’s longest winning streak? Or will we have to keep hearing about claimed national titles from the UCF faithful?

Kentucky vs. Penn State (1:00 p.m., ABC): The No. 14 Wildcats cap their successful season against the No. 12 Nittany Lions in Orlando’s annual Big Ten-SEC showdown.

Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual
Washington vs. Ohio State (5:00 p.m., ESPN): This year’s Grandaddy of Them All features the Pac-12 Champion No. 9 Huskies against the Big Ten Champion No. 6 Buckeyes in Urban Meyer’s last game at the helm.
