Week 7 college football open thread: It’s getting good now

Florida-LSU is just the cherry on top of a great day of action.

This is as close to a truly great Saturday of college football on paper as we have had this year. At least, I think it is.

And it’s not just that the Florida Gators are going to be in the spotlight for the second straight week — this time, in a night game against the LSU Tigers that is almost certain to be the day’s most-viewed contest. No, this week has other ranked-on-ranked matchups, and good games between good team, and it has them in quantity and at all hours.

The noon block? Fox has Oklahoma-Texas, which is a good bet to be high-scoring and entertaining even if it’s hard to fathom the Longhorns keeping up with the Sooners. And if we somehow get a Red River Snoozer, Florida fans can just flip to South Carolina at Georgia for a scout on the Gators’ next two foes.

At 3:30, Alabama and Texas A&M meet up in the latest attempt by a Nick Saban disciple to take down his former boss. And then there’s Clemson-Florida State, in which Saban’s great nemesis will look to prolong the suffering of the program left in shambles by that disciple from the previous sentence.

Then at night, we get USC-Notre Dame, Penn State-Iowa, and Louisville-Wake Forest in addition to Florida-LSU.

Today will be a day for your back or favorite buttons to do work. And that’s welcome.
