Week 6 college football open thread: Around the eye of the storm

Gainesville is the epicenter of the college football universe this week.

For the second time this year, the Florida Gators will be playing in the game of the day in college football.

And this time, it won’t be because they’re playing one of just two games on the day.

The Gators’ seismic showdown with the Auburn Tigers is one of just three games pitting ranked teams against each other on the Week 6 college football schedule, and it’s arguably a lot more interesting than the other ones, a noon-hour matchup between rising Iowa and listing Michigan and a primetime game between red-hot Ohio State and inexplicably ranked Michigan State. (Seriously, why is Michigan State ranked?)

And among the other games featuring ranked teams, it’s hard to find potentially compelling matchups on paper. Texas traveling to see a West Virginia far removed from its Dana Holgorsen-Will Grier battery and Georgia invading Neyland Stadium — which is going to be rather saturated in red and black, one must suspect — are among the best options.

Furthermore, it’s entirely possible that all of the upset magic for this week in this stupid, wonderful sport was dedicated to Cincinnati, which knocked off UCF and then came for the program’s entire soul with some Disney-parodying grave dancing on Friday.

Can’t fathom topping that! So this is likely a perfect day to spend the entire day killing time until Florida-Auburn ... and either ignore (because revelry) or stare blankly at (because hello darkness, my old friend) a TV afterward.
