Week 10 college football open thread: A sleepy Saturday beyond the spotlight?

Florida and Georgia are playing the day’s marquee game. Is there any intrigue beyond it?

Obviously, the Florida Gators taking on the Georgia Bulldogs in Jacksonville is the highlight of the Week 10 college football schedule. It’s one of just two ranked-on-ranked matchups, and the only one with two top-10 teams.

But it’s also maybe one of just two really compelling games on paper on this day.

There’s Florida-Georgia at 3:30, and there’s SMU-Memphis at 7:30, but it’s really hard to find anything else I feel compelled to spend part of my Saturday on. Michigan-Maryland might have been more interesting back when the Terrapins appeared to be alternating great and gross performances, but they’ve settled more for gross of late; Oregon-USC would have been more interesting five or even three years ago.

The other stuff? Miami-Florida State doesn’t even look like a good undercard in the afternoon, and it’s hard to get up for Clemson hosting Wofford or Utah traveling to Washington. LSU and Alabama being off in advance of their showdown really hurts this weekend’s schedule, I think — though, yeah, I’m aware that writing that and assuming that games won’t be exciting on the field just because they aren’t exciting on paper is silly.

Here’s hoping today’s slate surprises me and all of us.
