Florida vs. Vanderbilt, Game Thread: A sweet Saturday in Music City

The Gators should roll Vandy. And then we can all nap or whatever.

The most intriguing things about Florida’s meeting with Vanderbilt this Saturday at noon, in order:

  1. Kyle Trask’s opportunity to throw four touchdown passes in seven consecutive games, extending records that seem likely to ultimately belong to only him.
  2. The fact that it’s airing on ABC, rather than ESPN, because the morning-of cancellation of Clemson’s visit to Florida State, a move that has already produced all sorts of incredibly depressing recriminations and takes because we live in a nation in which nothing is real unless you assert it to be anymore.
  3. Uhhh, I guess seeing whether Florida’s defense can stop even a really bad offense?

This final month of regular-season football is going to feel a lot like playing out the string for Florida and its fans, because the Gators are going to be heavily favored to win games they really only need to win by a single point to keep all their dreams alive. Florida must win these games, sure, but style points are for Trask’s Heisman campaign, not the Gators’ College Football Playoff chances: Those will be determined by a game in Atlanta down the road, so long as Florida makes it there.

Winning at Vanderbilt is not exactly a high hurdle to Florida making it there.

So, yeah, I’m just rooting for Trask touchdowns today.
