Chomping at Bits: Things have changed since Florida’s last trip to Ole Miss

Florida and Ole Miss have diverged more than they’ve intersected in the 13 years since the Gators last headed to Oxford.

Chomping at Bits (still) comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find, and maybe some other stuff. It will (hopefully) run from Tuesdays to Thursdays in the 9 a.m. Eastern hour this fall.

Florida making first trip to Oxford in 13 years: Catching up on the weird UF-Ole Miss series and what the Rebels are. (Pat Dooley, The Gainesville Sun | David Wunderlich, Gator Country | Field Report)

Gators have history with Rebels’ QBs: You likely know Matt Corral was once set to be a Gator, but you might not have known John Rhys Plumlee once caught Dan Mullen’s eye. (Zach Abolverdi, Gators Territory)

Students have mixed feelings on limited attendance: The irony of students once again actually having a chance to miss out on tickets due to a lottery will not be lost on many fans my age and older, but not being able to pack in thousands of students for a potentially life-affirming experience genuinely is a problem for college football. (Christian Ortega, The Independent Florida Alligator)

Bulls hire Billy Donovan: This should probably put the incessant rumors about Donovan returning to college basketball — and the utter pipe dream of him returning to Florida — to rest. (Adrian Wojnarowski, ESPN)

Remembering Juice: California University of Pennsylvania defensive tackle Jamain “Juice” Stephens died after contracting COVID-19 in August. And his story is a reminder of how much could still be lost this season. (Billy Witz, The New York Times)
