The Gators are projected to top Georgia by a bare majority of those polled.

Chomping at Bits (still) comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find, and maybe some other stuff. It will (hopefully) run from Tuesdays to Thursdays in the 9 a.m. Eastern hour this fall.

Florida picked to win SEC East, six Gators make All-SEC squads: Florida just barely edged out Georgia for that top spot in the East according to the media members polled, with 624 points and 53 first-place votes to Georgia’s 614 and 43, but the Gators only earned five of the 96 votes cast for SEC champion, last among the four teams (Alabama, Georgia, and LSU are the others) chosen as potential champions.

Also, Kyle Trask (!) and Kyle Pitts were each chosen as first-teamers, while Zachary Carter, Kaiir Elam, and Marco Wilson made the second team and Ventrell Miller earned a spot on the third team. (Rick Hurtado, Florida Gators)

Florida releases uniform schedule for 2020: I think I like this?

I’ve firmly established myself as a proponent of the idea of Florida wearing throwbacks like the beloved 1960s-style ones it wore against Alabama in 2006 and Auburn in 2019 once a year, and I think doing so again this year makes sense. But I’ll probably have some more extensive thoughts about this either later this week or next.

Florida assistants get pay raises: In a pandemic, even. Nice work if you can get it! In fairness, Florida has yet to announce any firings or furloughs this year, which would be a strong indicator about the financial health of the athletic department. (Nick de la Torre, Gator Country)

Football radio crew to broadcast road games from Gainesville: I think this is the correct call for the 66-year-old Mick Hubert’s health, if nothing else — and I’m more than fine with that being paramount — but it will still be strange. Mick calling games without the crowd on hand to help guide him? (Pat Dooley, The Gainesville Sun)
